Course Reflection Narrative
In Spanish 495 we had to explain and comprehend the purpose and significance of oral projects and the narratives. This also brought us to also learn the best practices for conducting interviews when it came to collecting oral narratives. For the two interviews we had to pick two people that we didn't know and prepare 10 questions so that we could ask them about their experiences. We also had to connect them to two books that we had picked. The two stories I am going to use that interest me and relate to my topic are the stories "La muñeca menor" by Rosario Ferré and "La almohada de plumas" by Horacio Quiroga. Both stories share some similar qualities such as one person cannot live without the presence of the other. I chose these two stories because the theme I talked about last week was about how people must accept each other for who they are. Also, I mentioned how many people discourage others for the things they like, so these two stories are examples and scenarios where people are not accepted for who they are. The lesser doll talks about a woman who is chosen by a man to be his wife simply because she is beautiful and the man only uses her as an object to be displayed and does not let her be herself. In the feather pillow speaks of a woman who is sick and cannot do anything because she is a woman and therefore makes her even sicker leading her to death. The interview process was a lot of fun. I was able to learn so much from the two people that I interviewed even though they had a decent age gap. They both had very similar stories to tell and I'm glad I was able to hear their stories.
