Course Reflection Narrative
I learnt about the professional and career avenues available to me as a student majoring in Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures in WLC 300. The World Languages and Cultures (WLC) department at CSUMB and its two majors Japanese Language and Culture and Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures are introduced in this course. WLC faculty conducted classes throughout the semester to discuss the courses available, their areas of expertise, and to share their academic and career paths in order to provide current students with advice. We have a wide variety of Spanish teachers in our department that could offer advice to those that needed it. While Dr. Leonard presented the technological aspects of both majors and administered the STAMP test, which evaluates students' ability in the target language, Dr. Saito-Abbott provided advice to both Spanish and Japanese majors during class sessions. I finished crucial coursework for my emphasis in this class, including the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), in which I choose the courses I would enroll in while a student at CSUMB. I also finished my personal statement and resume, two crucial documents for securing academic and professional prospects. Last but not least, I created my own website and ePortfolio where I have documented all of my academic experiences, including my classes, service learning, MLOs, Integrative Narrative, Community Project, and Capstone, among others. The connection between the instructors and students who were majoring in Spanish and Japanese was one of the nicest parts of this class because the WLC department is our extended family.
