Course Reflection Narrative
In SPAN301S, Service Learning in the Chicano/ Latino Community, I increased my participation and took part in a community project that was essential to providing solutions pertaining to justice, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility. Along with peer conversations in the classroom and oral presentations delivered in Spanish, the course was created to assist us in developing our interpersonal and professional communication abilities. The Food Bank of Monterey County was the location of my thirty-hour community service project. My understanding of what it means to actually assist others and assist my community was enhanced by this experience. The Food Bank of Monterey County's contributions to the community were unclear to me prior to my volunteer work. I'm grateful for the knowledge I've gained and the chance it has given me to support others in need in my community. I am also thankful that I had the chance to take this course since it helped me understand the true purpose of volunteering. In addition I have come to the reality that helping those in need is something we should all do not because we need to but because we want to.
